TPO-50-task-2
It is more important for governments to spend money to improve Internet access than to
improve public transportation.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
First of all, why does the concept of "progress" seem to be happening all around us? One key reason is that the importance of information is becoming increasingly evident. Since the invention of the Internet, the speed and efficiency of communication have risen dramatically. That is why the Internet often plays a central role in our discussions about modern development.
However, while Internet access is indeed important, I believe that improving public transportation should be a higher priority for governments. The reason is simple: transportation affects people』s daily lives in a more immediate and practical way. Without efficient buses, subways, and trains, many people cannot go to work or school on time. In many big cities, traffic jams and delays already cause stress and waste a lot of time. Investing in public transportation directly solves these problems.
Moreover, public transportation is crucial for reducing environmental pollution. Cars release a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air. If more people use public transportation, the number of cars on the road will decrease, which means cleaner air and less global warming. For example, in cities like Seoul or Singapore, the government invested in convenient and clean subways, and as a result, many citizens prefer not to drive. This shows how transportation improvement can support a greener future.
Another important point is that not everyone benefits equally from better Internet. In fact, people who don』t have stable jobs or who live in rural areas may not even own devices to access the Internet regularly. But almost everyone needs to move from place to place. Improving public transportation helps a wider range of people, especially low-income citizens, who depend on it every day. It promotes social fairness and reduces inequality.
Of course, Internet access is also worth improving, especially in developing areas. But in many countries, technology companies are already expanding Internet coverage quickly. On the other hand, public transportation often requires large-scale government planning and funding. Therefore, it makes sense for governments to focus more on this area, where their investment is more necessary.
In conclusion, although Internet access is valuable in today』s world, I believe public transportation should be the first priority for government spending. It supports economic activity, protects the environment, and benefits more people in their everyday lives. Progress is not only about fast information — it』s also about how efficiently and fairly people can move in their real, physical world.
